Bridge/Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) - Indiana

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and talented Bridge/Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers and project managers on various aspects of bridge and structural engineering projects, with a focus on Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design Development: Assist in the development of bridge and structural designs for transportation projects in accordance with INDOT standards and specifications.

  2. Structural Analysis: Conduct structural analysis and calculations using industry-standard software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, or similar programs to ensure the integrity and safety of bridge structures.

  3. Drafting and Modeling: Prepare detailed engineering drawings and models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other drafting software, adhering to INDOT drafting standards.

  4. Construction Support: Provide technical support during construction activities, including responding to requests for information (RFIs), reviewing shop drawings, and conducting field inspections as necessary.

  5. Project Coordination: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure project objectives are met within specified timelines and budgets.

  6. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, design memos, and other project documentation in compliance with INDOT requirements.

  7. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance reviews of design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

  8. Professional Development: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in bridge and structural engineering through continuous learning and professional development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain EIT certification within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of bridge design principles, structural analysis, and construction techniques.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with INDOT design standards and specifications is preferred.
  • Prior internship or work experience in bridge/structural engineering is an asset.
